Celebrate Diwali at Sylvia Park
Happy Diwali!
2–16 November | Level 1, outside LEGO
Join us in celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with a colourful new display at Sylvia Park.
Created around a large-scale mandala, the display comes to life through light, colour and movement, with animated patterns shifting across LED screens to create an ever-changing visual experience.
Take a moment to enjoy the display, snap a photo with friends and whānau, then explore the other side to learn more about the five days of Diwali and the traditions and meanings behind each day.
Live Dance Performances
We’re adding even more colour and movement to the celebrations with live performances from Chennai City Gangzta (CCG), Auckland’s homegrown Tamil dance crew.
Blending the energy of Kuthu and Kollywood with Tamil folk traditions, CCG will bring the music, movement and spirit of South India to Sylvia Park with two special live performances.
When? Thursday, 5 November: 6:45pm and 7:10pm & Sunday, 8 November: 12pm and 12:30pm
Where? The Cone - Green area outside Culture Kings
Come along, enjoy the performance and celebrate Diwali with us.
What is Diwali?
Diwali, also known as Deepavali or the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by millions of people around the world.
Observed over five days, Diwali is a time of celebration, family and renewal. Light is an important symbol throughout the festival, representing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Celebrations vary between communities and traditions, but often include lighting diyas (oil lamps), decorating homes, sharing food and sweets, and spending time with loved ones.
