adidas Originals and Foot Locker bring SUPERSTAR to life with a one-day tattoo residency led by Heeds Native at Sylvia Park

Auckland, NZ (May 2026) — adidas Originals’ Superstar returns with a simple truth: icons don’t answer to time - they create it. Born from sport and adopted by culture, Superstar is a legacy, continuously re-authored by the people and communities who wear it.

In Aotearoa, adidas Originals and Foot Locker are celebrating the people who shape culture; putting New Zealand creators and culture-makers at the centre of the Superstar story. To mark the launch, Foot Locker Sylvia Park will host a one-day retail takeover led by tā moko artist and creative talent Heeds Native, transforming the store into a live expression of the campaign — where customers can step inside the story, not just shop it.

Taking place Saturday 23 May 2026 (10:00am–6:00pm), Heeds will bring a pop-up tattoo set-up into the retail environment alongside a Superstar customisation moment, turning product launch energy into a cultural experience rooted in craft, self-expression and limited access.

For one day only, Sylvia Park becomes a creative studio — with Superstars on foot, Heeds on the tools, and Foot Locker as the meeting point between a global icon and local culture. The activation positions Superstar not just as a sneaker, but as a canvas for self-expression — where you can be your original self, effortlessly, confidently.

How the experience works

In the lead-up to the event, customers who purchase a pair of adidas Superstar in-store during the promotional period can register to be considered for access to the on-the-day experiences. Selected participants will receive:

• A 20-minute tattoo session with Heeds Native (limited slots)
• Access to a Superstar customisation station, creating a one-of-one pair on the day
• The chance to win an elevated tattoo experience at The Native Studio

By pairing craft and customisation, the activation creates a tangible moment of participation — turning purchase into access and giving customers a new way to wear the icon.
With limited sessions and a single-store takeover, the activation is designed to build anticipation and drive foot traffic through a clear purchase mechanic - rewarding customers with an experience that sits at the intersection of retail, art and identity.

This residency is a local hand-off moment - spotlighting the OGs who paved the way and the next generation shaping what’s next, with Superstar as the original icon that connects them.
