Sylvia Park
The Flowing of the Awa
The Work
‘The Flowing of the Awa’ reflects the presence and movement of water through this place, acknowledging the natural waterways and histories that run beneath and around Sylvia Park.
The design weaves together patterns inspired by the gentle movement of an awa (river), echoed through the flowing lines set into the pavement and surrounding landscape. These elements guide the eye and the path, inviting visitors to slow down and notice the connection between land, water and people.
Anchored by natural stone and planting, the artwork brings a sense of calm and continuity to the space. It recognises the significance of water as a source of life and connection, and the role it continues to play in shaping the land and community today.
